Cliff Pendlebury Outreach Fund

Rev. Cliff Pendlebury was the minister at St. Paul’s United Church in Midland from 1993 until his death in 2009. After his death an anonymous donor / donors, established the Cliff Pendlebury Outreach Fund with the Huronia Community Foundation ($25,000) to keep alive the late minister’s work. Cliff always challenged his congregation to become more involved in the community and around the world. He kept the faith and believed that we are called to look outward to the community and beyond and help others in any way we can. Cliff also served as the chaplain for the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 80, and the Midland Police Service. In 2008 Cliff received the Award of Merit from the town of Midland “for rendering genuine unselfish and distinguished service to our community and in particular the less fortunate”.

St. Paul’s rose to the challenge: in 1995 the church became home to a drop-in centre for people looking for fellowship and support. This was the beginning of a long involvement with worthy causes such as building a primary school in Sierra Leone along with a community well, sponsoring a family from a refugee camp in Thailand, supporting additional refugee families from camps in Thailand, raising funds every fall for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, just to name a few projects.

Under the terms of the Fund, Cliff’s family decides each year who the recipients of the Fund distributions will be.

The Fund has already benefitted the Town of Midland’s Street Outreach Team, the Salvation Army Street Outreach, the Guesthouse Shelter, and St. Paul’s United Church.
