Gateway Centre for Learning

Gateway Centre for Learning, a non-profit literacy and basic skills organization in Midland, was fortunate to receive a grant from HCF to help run a Hospitality Employability Leadership Performance (HELP) workshop.
Six participants received training over a five week period in workplace communications, workplace math, providing excellent customer service, using tools of the trade such as calculators, telephones and POS systems.

The participants received training and certificates for Emergency First Aid/CPR/AED, Smart Serve, Safe Food Handling, Customer Service, WHMIS, and Health & Safety Awareness training. Participants were committed to completing all assigned activities and demonstrated a strong sense of enthusiasm and teamwork. Guest speakers spoke on customer service and attitude, resumes, cover letters, interviewing techniques and the value of teamwork. Participants feel they are now able to confidently enter the hospitality and retail industry with a full set of up to date and relevant skills.
