Scientists in School

Success is hearing “I want to be a scientist when I grow up!” Every time we enter a classroom or community setting, our goal is to encourage kids to dream big and think about a future or a career that perhaps they never thought was possible, until they had Scientists in School. We want children to believe they can make a difference in their world and achieve their aspirations.

On any given school day, 3,000 children in more than 100 Ontario and Alberta classrooms are transformed into young scientists. Engaged and in-the-moment, they peer into microscopes, examine rocks, test their powers of observation, bounce and bend light, design pneumatic models that have the power to solve a problem, explore insect adaptations, investigate properties of matter, experiment with levers, and build bridges to their futures.

No longer just students, these children are scientists – biologists, chemists, engineers, ecologists, geologists and physicists — in school.

At Scientists in School, we have a vision that every Canadian child will be actively engaged in the seeing, doing and understanding of science and be excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Our workshops instil fundamental STEM literacy skills, which will help to prepare students for 21st century careers, and also help to develop the critical skills needed to find innovative solutions to complex environmental and health-related challenges. We believe that one child at a time, we can change attitudes towards STEM and create new possibilities for children.

Thank you Huronia Community Foundation! Your support over the last nine years has helped to inspire children and youth across the region to explore science in their everyday lives and dream about STEM careers of the future. You play a vital role in helping today’s young scientists become tomorrow’s skilled workers, leaders and innovators.
