The Huronia Community Foundation is at the heart of building and sustaining the place we call home. With a network that spans across our region, coupled with an in-depth knowledge of our specific community priorities, we have the resources in place to make a lasting difference.

Make the most of your Giving by contributing to or creating an Endowment Fund to support causes you care about; you can have a lasting impact on your community and you can make a difference!

Named Endowments can be set up with the Foundation for $10,000. This level is to be attained within five years of the Fund’s inception. You have the ability to contribute at any time knowing that your fund is being well managed.  You can play a very active or passive role in our Grants process and your Fund can be designed to your specific wishes.  Your donations are tax receipted at the time the monies are received by the Foundation and you have the satisfaction of knowing your donations remain in your community.

Planned Giving is a wonderful way to give to either a new or existing Fund. It allows you to create a charitable gift now, that your cause can benefit from in the future. Using planning tools such as wills, trusts and insurance, and understanding the tax treatments of your bequests, it is a way to create larger benefits to a charity while generating greater tax advantages for you. Endowment Fund Types

Community Unrestricted Endowment Fund

This is a general Fund that gives the Foundation the greatest flexibility in awarding Grants to charities. This type of Fund is not tied into any specific charity or area of interest, allowing the Foundation to respond to the immediate and changing needs of the community.

Donor Advised Endowment Fund

Donor advised funds enable a donor to have ongoing participation in the selection of charities that will benefit from their gift. Donors can choose this type of fund instead of creating a family trust or private foundation. Existing foundations are able to transfer their assets to the foundation to achieve higher returns or reduce administrative costs while still remaining involved in allocating grants. A minimum donation of $10,000 is required to open a donor advised endowment fund.

Designated Endowment Fund

This type of Fund gives the donor the opportunity to specify, at the time the Fund is established, which particular charity or charities they would like to support in perpetuity.

Field of Interest Endowment Fund

Much like the Community Unrestricted Endowment Fund, the Field of Interest Endowment Fund allows donors to identify an area of interest they would like their donation to support (i.e. Arts & Culture, Community, Environment, Healthcare & Mental Health, Seniors, Sports & Recreation or  Youth & Scholarships) and the Foundation’s Grants Committee will work to select worthwhile projects to support.

Flow-Through Funds

These are non-endowed funds whereby the funds are received by the foundation and then provided to a designated charitable organization on behalf of the donor(s). The capital from these funds are distributed over a one year period.

The board will consider instances to create flow through funds on a case by-case basis where there is a demonstrated advantage to the long-term growth of the foundation.
